Industrial & Commercial Refrigeration Survey

Field checklist for machinery-room and box surveys of industrial and commercial refrigeration. Tie each rack or condensing unit to the rooms it serves before leaving the site.

Compressor Racks & Machinery

  • Record compressor manufacturer, model, serial, refrigerant, and horsepower or displacement.
  • If the panel is live and the owner allows it, log suction and discharge pressure next to the tag.
  • Note oil level, oil separator, receiver level, and any active controller alarm.
  • Photograph the rack nameplate and the valve train in one sequence.

Unit Coolers & Evaporators

  • Identify the room, setpoint, and evaporator tag for each coil on the system.
  • Count fans and note fans that are off, noisy, or iced unevenly.
  • Inspect the drain pan, condensate line, and heat trace. Note ice on the floor under the unit.
  • Record coil fin condition and whether the unit is the one shown in the alarm log.

Defrost Systems

  • Record hot gas versus electric defrost for each evaporator.
  • Note posted defrost duration and the termination method.
  • On hot gas, identify the solenoid, check valve, and whether melt water is refreezing in the drain.
  • On electric, note heater amperage if tagged and any failed heater circuit left in the log.

Condensers & Heat Rejection

  • Record air-cooled versus evaporative condenser, fan count, and fan staging.
  • Note fouled fins, scale, or fans that do not run with the others.
  • Log receiver level and liquid-line sight glass condition.
  • Identify where condenser discharge air can re-enter an intake or a dock.

Relief Valves & Slab Freeze Protection

  • Record relief valve manufacturer, set pressure, and discharge location. Note caps, paint, or a discharge aimed at a walkway.
  • Do not guess the refrigerant if it is not posted on the machinery or the valve tag.
  • Locate underfloor or slab heat pumps, glycol concentration if posted, and the control setpoint.
  • Photograph insulation and vapor barrier failures at slab penetrations and suction lines.

Supported Facility & Project Types

  • Cold Storage & Distribution
  • Food Processing
  • Supermarkets & Grocery
  • Logistics Warehouses
  • Industrial Process Refrigeration
  • Pharmaceutical & Controlled Temperature
  • Ice Production
  • Commissary & Central Kitchen
